Range Sensor Brick for Modular Robotics

This project deals with the design and implementation of a sensor brick comprising the laser range sensor-LMS 200 manufactured by Sick as the major component of the brick for acquisition. This brick is expected to be an independent unit, capable of operating for multifaceted applications. One of the major goals of devising such a brick is to incorporate it as a plug and play sensor for a modular robot. The brick can also be used for performing the under-vehicle inspection to detect the possible threat objects for security. Another application of the brick would be to acquire road profiles which can be used  for analyzing the road terrain.

In this survey, we focused on two major aspects of range imagery. In the first half, we discussed about the principle of range image acquisition and in the second part we surveyed on the commercially available range scanners in the market till date.
