Simulation of Thermal Images using MuSES

MuSES is a cross-platform thermal modeling tool, which can be used to model the steady state and transient distribution of heat over complex surface descriptions of component systems. MuSES models 3-D conduction, convection, and multi-bounce radiation.

The main objective of this project is to simulate infrared images of under vehicle parts such as muffler, engine block etc. to study the heat distribution. The study will also be extended for real LASER scanned data. The final outcome of this project will be simulated infrared predictions of the desired parts of the under vehicle system and also simulations of the whole car body.

Segmentation of Thermal Images

Image segmentation is one of the most important operations in Image analysis. It is one of the demanding tasks in image processing, and determines the quality of the final result of analysis. Image segmentation is the process of partitioning an image into regions based on some predefined homogeneity criterion. This project surveys the common methods for segmentation of infrared images. Infrared thermal images are unique and are purely based on the heat distribution of an object.
