Modular Vision Sensor Brick

This project deals with designing, building, and packaging of a Vision Sensor Brick. The brick concept was introduced to ensure modularity and easy operation, as well as maintenance. The various blocks of the brick are: (1) acquisition block, which is the camera to acquire data Color Dome Quad Camera DQ205 from Clover Electronics, (2) preprocessor block, which to perform the low level processing operations ASUS P4P800-VM motherboard with an Intel 4 processor, (3) communication block, which consists of Wireless LinkSys WMP54G with 802.11g standard, and (4) power supply block, which makes the whole brick self-sufficient is a standard battery Panasonic LC RA1212P Lead Acid Battery of 12V.

This is an implementation project, which includes both hardware and software. The vision sensor brick is expected to be an independent module, which can work as a separate entity, as well being able to mount on a robot as a plug-and-play device. The concept of brick with its generic design allows us to use it for various applications. The Video Sensor Brick can be used for the purpose of robot path planning, and areas that require continuous inspection and monitoring. The main application considered while designing the brick is under vehicle inspection. The design is to be made to suit for this application as it has to low profile model and be mounted on a robotic platform that would go under a vehicle and capture the video sequence of scenes.
